Mod Post #2

Hello again!

Guys and Dolls is officially reopened! As such, welcome back to the game. It's awesome to have you here. Currently we have more than ten characters, however players still have until April 5th to pick up any remaining characters they might wish to play.

After that, with regards to players wanting to reapply for characters they played here before, there will be a more streamlined process of applying. If it's a character they haven't previously played, then the normal app process will apply!

There have been a few changes to the game in the time it went down. As mentioned before, we would like to give players more of an active impact of the game's plot, so some information about the key players behind the scenes will be revealed. All that we ask is that OOC information =/= IC information as this info will be handed out to the characters themselves as the game progresses.

Some of the changes are as follows:

OOC changes
  • Death policy: The death page has been updated. Character's friends can now bargain on behalf of the dead if players wish, amongst other things.

  • Rewards: Last year there was mention of a rewards and punishments system. Sadly, my draft of the rewards page was lost with the previous game. However! This system is still in effect and characters who help out in repairing the current destruction will receive priority on these rewards. As soon as I rewrite them up, which should happen within a week.

  • Applications: The applications process has also been altered slightly. Players can now use samples from other games for both the network and the prose sections in the applications. For players who wish to pick up a previously played character, an application will still need to be submitted, however it will be a shorter, more streamlined version of our current apps. These alternative apps will go up once applications reopen.

    IC changes

  • Something went down and we all slept through it: This is what happened in a nutshell. The last date characters should recall is December 20th. When they wake, it will be April 3rd and characters should have no idea what happened. They will have lost three and a half months of time. All characters will feel very groggy and disorientated when they wake. For some, this will linger for days, others will recover faster. Likewise, some will feel as though they've slept far too long, and others may feel as though they closed their eyes for just a few minutes...

  • Households: Some players may have noticed that certain households on the household page have been struck through. These are the households which have been damaged over the last few months. With the exception of one house, these strikethroughs are not permanent. However, as players have expressed a wish for certain houses to be amalgamated in order to allow for greater character interaction, there will be a vote on which houses to merge, later.

Just to emphasize, none of this is set in stone yet. These mergers will happen and we'll see how it works out! If it doesn't work out, we'll do something else.

    The destroyed households are:
    Waremono Household
    Chousojutsu Household
    Kawabari Household
    Hachisu Household
    Henshu Household
    Mazoku Household

If your character is homeless, they can pick and choose which household to temporarily live in, with the exception of Kagayaku Household and Iki Household, because Madame Aya and Sir Nagi are just too stingy. :|

  • Destroyed establishments: In addition to some households, certain establishments in Ukiyo have also been targeted. Some have been wiped out completely.
    These places include:
    Tsumi Inn
    Nanbe Armory
    Hachi-En gardens (damaged only)
    Ukiyo Guard's quarters (damaged only)

For full information on the damage, players can look here. If your character worked in any of these places, don't panic! Damaged and destroyed establishments are definitely temporary. Characters who worked in the wrecked stores and inns will be asked to assist in the rebuilding of these places. Characters who have powers will also be allowed to use their powers, if it helps with the rebuilding. Moderator updates will be posted periodically, telling players which places have been rebuilt. The whole process should take a maximum of three weeks.

Needless to say, characters who help with rebuilding will be worked hard.

  • Mazoku Household: Mazoku Household is officially haunted. As such it will be the only house which will definitely not be rebuilt. The area around it is also in a miserable state, nothing will grow there anymore and anything planted will die within a day, looking for all the world as though it's been poisoned. Those who choose to stay in the wreckage of the house for whatever reason, will emerge ill and tired. Not to mention the horrible nightmares they will have if they attempt to sleep! If they can manage that. Sleep might be difficult however, with the muted whispers and groans that can occasionally be heard in the ruins. Sometimes, at night, it might even seem as though something moves amongst the wreckage.

  • Powers: Nope. No powers yet. This is more a note than anything else, but for the next week, characters who have jade bracelets blocking their canon abilities might be able to feel those powers as they remember before arriving in Ukiyo. Or some hint of them. It's important to note though, that they will not be able to use these powers. The exceptions to this are characters who offer to help with rebuilding damaged establishments. Characters with powers will be allowed to use those powers to aid rebuilding, but as soon as they stop working, their bracelets will go on lockdown.

In other words, they will only be able to use those powers while helping to rebuild.

  • The sky is falling: Well, not quite, but there is a definite hairline crack running from North to South. Yes, in the sky. It's not going away any time soon.

  • Food in Ukiyo: Regardless of whether their households have been damaged or not, characters may notice something unusual with the food in Ukiyo. The servants seem to be rationing out their meals more carefully and portions have gotten a lot smaller. Similarly, the price of food and drinks have escalated, even in the market place which used to be a good spot to get a bargain.

  • As usual, if you have any questions or concerns then please don't hesitate to ask. I hope I've covered everything, but just in case I haven't there is a question thread right here.
